How to Deal With Story Telling
04/06/07 4:53 PM

My daughter a few days ago was playing with the shower screen door whilst I was on the loo. I asked her to stop, and told her that she might shut her finger in the door.

Within seconds of me telling her this, you guessed it, she shut her finger in the door. As soon as I was done comforting her, I reiterated that she shouldn't have been doing that, and if she had listened she wouldn't have got hurt.

You could have scraped my jaw up off the floor when she turned around and told me that she didn't do it, that Winnie the Pooh shut the door on her finger.

She's not yet two. I am not ready to deal with story telling and this level of imagination.

How would you deal with it?

i think if you can encourage her imagination, but insert phrases such as "that's a great story," or "what a great imagination you have" to help her learn over time the difference between reality and imagination.
